Advice to Authors

 

Below are guidelines for authors wishing to submit articles to be considered for publication in the “Journal of Islamic Medicine” (JIM)

 

 

I.                    The article should be an original contribution of the author and should not have been published in other journals.

Prior presentation(s), meeting(s), or publication of an abstract does not preclude submission to JIM.

 

II.                All submissions have to be made on digital media, such as diskettes, CD’s or by electronic mail. Submit the original and two copies of the manuscript to: The preferred formatting of the document is Microsoft Word other formats will be accepted only on a prior approval basis.

 

III.             Submit or email at least to three different emails as listed under:

Receipt of the manuscript is acknowledged immediately and a submission number is given. If you have had no acknowledgement in a reasonable time please contact JIM office: 813-661-6161 Fax: 813-684-5500. Address:            P O Box 160, Brandon Florida, USA 33509-0160

 

Authors are asked to refer to that number in all further emails about the article. Manuscripts are sent to reviewers. Authors are usually notified within eight (8) weeks about the results of the review process. When a manuscript is accepted, an “Agreement of Authorization” transferring the copyright ownership rights to the Islamic Medical Association will be mailed to the author and should be received by JIMA before the article can be published.

 

IV.             Prepare the manuscript in accordance with the following instructions:

1.      Word Process the article on standard size format (22x28 cms)

(8 ½ x 11) in size, with 2.5 cm (1 in) margins at the top, bottom and sides. It should be typed double-spaced throughout.

 

2.      The title page should contain: (1) The title of the article, (2) Names of all authors (first name, middle initial and last name), (3) Highest degrees of each of the author(s), (4) name(s) of the Institutions at which the author holds academic or scholastic positions. (5) Honorable societies of which the author/authors is/are members. (6) Acknowledgement of all source(s) of financial support if any, (7) Name, address and phone number and email of one of the authors who assumes all the responsibility for correspondence with the editors.

3.      The abstract or summary and key words should appear on the second page. Abstracts/summary should be no more than 150 words long and should mention the purpose of article, its main objectives, and principal conclusions. Below the abstract, list three to five key words or short phrases that will assist in indexing and cross-indexing of your article.

4.      The article should be preferably divided into the following headings: Introduction, article narrative, special discussion and conclusions if any.  The introduction should state the purpose of the article and familiarize the reader about the background of the subject to be discussed. The Body of the article detail and illustrations without repeating. Discussion should emphasize the new and the important aspects of the article its conclusions. Quoting the Holy Quran and the Ahadith is encouraged. The quotation should typed in a different font (italics) and be on a separate line in the text. They should give be references numbers in the text and listed in the reference section.

5.      Acknowledgements: Acknowledge only persons who have made substantial contributions to the study.

6.      References should be numbered consecutively as they appear in the text. Use the format of the “Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to a Journal”:

       Qureshi N, Abdelwahab E, El Noori D: Al-Razi’s description of allergy to roses: Journal of Allergy 1996: 94:324-26.

Chapter in Book:

      Cardiac drugs used by Ibn Sina: Hakim Mohammed Said. Hamdard publications, 1984:56-79

Qur’anic verses:

       Qur’anic verses should be listed in the reference section: Glorious Qur’an, Chapter… Verse…

Ahadith:

       Ahadith should be listed: For example Sahih Al Bukhari; Volume… and then give either the page, the number of hadith or section in which it is listed, include the city, publisher and date of publication.

7.      Type each table on separate page; number tables consecutively use only Arabic numerals. Each table must be cited in sequence at an appropriate point in the text. Each table has to have a legend. These should be brief yet indicate closely the purpose or content of the table. Each column should be precisely defined by headings. Abbreviations and special designations should be explained in a footnote to the table.

8.      Illustrations should be professionally drawn. Photographs must be sharp, and highest possible resolutions. Poor illustrations lacking artistic merit and poor resolution photographs will not be accepted for publication. Each figure or photograph should have a legend giving briefly its description and relationship with text.

 

V.                Special considerations:

 

1.      The above requirements are based on the “Uniform Requirements for Manuscript Submitted to Journals” prepared by the “International Committee of Journal editors”.

2.      If the article contains material from other sources, author(s) are responsible for obtaining and submitting written statements from both the author and the publisher giving permission to the Journal for publications of that material.

3.      Author(s) is/are totally responsible for all the statements/references made in his/her/their work including changes made by the copy editor. The publishers have issued a disclaimer and assume no liability or responsibility for any statements/claims/ copyright infringements that the author/authors may have made in their article.
